Meet our rector, Father Chuck
The Rev. Charles Sumner Weiss was called as Christ Church’s new rector in November 2014 after a search process that began in February 2014. His first Sunday with us was February 1, 2015, and he was installed by Bishop Wayne Wright in May.
Father Chuck came to Christ Church from St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Canonsburg, Pa., near Pittsburgh, but he was ordained in the Diocese of Delaware in 1997.
Father Chuck is familiar with Delaware and has many friends here after serving as an associate at Christ Church Christiana Hundred (Greenville) from 1997-2002. He also served as chaplain of St. Edmund’s Academy (similar to St. Anne’s) in Pittsburgh and as youth director at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh. And he was program director at Sheldon Calvary Camp in Conneaut, Onio, a place of special meaning to him where he developed enduring friendships and met his wife, Martha. They have two children in their 20s, Cara and Max.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in English, he received a Master’s in Human Development from Drexel University. His Master’s of Divinity is from Virginia Theological Seminary. We believe his communication skills, steadfast and loving spiritual leadership, engaging personality and experience with youth make Father Chuck the one we seek.
